Dusit Thani is a middle of the range five star family friendly hotel located in the Laguna complex on the island of Phuket.

 

Laguna is Asia’s first integrated destination resort, spanning over 1,000 acres of tropical parkland and featuring a number of luxury hotels, a lagoon, as the name suggests, and a golf course. One of the biggest attractions in Laguna is the scenic Bang Tao Bay, a beautiful white sand beach that goes on for miles.

Dusit Thani offers a lot of different accommodation options to its guests starting from very affordable Deluxe Rooms to Two Bedroom Pool Villas for more discerning travellers.

 

Deluxe Rooms start from only AUD $150.00 per night and even though they are not overly generous in size (32 sq m) they are freshly renovated and feature little balconies, many with sea views.

 

For those seeking a little more space try the hotel suites. They are tastefully decorated and are perfect for romantic couples looking for a little indulgence during their stay at Dusit.

 

For families travelling together two bedroom villas are the best choice. Villas start from $800.00 per night and are the ultimate accommodation at the resort. Two levels of luxurious accommodation allows for everyone to have their space. Each of the large private bedroom  comes with an ensuite and upstairs living room is spacious enough for a party.

 

Rooftop pool is just a cherry on top and is a perfect diversion on those very hot summer days.

 

Villa guests also enjoy special benefits like late check out, daily fruit basket, complimentary breakfast for 4 guests and daily afternoon tea.

 

Dining

 

Dusit Thani Phuket has recently benefited from a new GM who has set her heart on making a lot of changes in the resort. Dusit is about 20 years old and some of the dining venues do look a little tired but we hear that a rejuvenation program is on its way.

 

Breakfasts are served in the main restaurant and in La Trattoria for VIP guests staying in the villas and suites. La Trattoria is an al fresco Italian restaurant ner the beach and our favourite at the resort.

 

Breakfasts are plentiful and intimate here, no big crowds trying to get to the busy buffet. And dinners are truly special. Italian chef has won a number of awards for his authentic Italian cousine in Phuket.

 

We had a fabulous family dinner here and were very impressed with the prawn risotto, burrata salad and home made pasta. Highly recommend this restaurant.

 

Facilities

 

Dusit Thani is located on a beautiful beach and most guests gravitate towards it during the day. Sun beds are plentiful as is the shade from the palm trees.

 

Swimming pool attracts mostly younger guests while little gym stayed unattended on most days I visited it. For those who love ultimate relaxation try the resort’s spa; it is run by Angsana and offers not only a range of wonderful body and facial treatments but also discounted packages at certain times of the day. Let the professionals nurture you and work away the stress from your body.

Excellent setting for a special occasion – Dusit Thani knows how to celebrate Christmas and New Year in style with beautiful  entertainers, ice sculptures, season decorations, child activities, the whole lot! I had a pleasure of celebrating Christmas Eve here and it was a night to remember!

 

 

Splitting Hairs

 

I would prefer slightly more stylish beach beds and umbrellas and Casuarina restaurant could definitely benefit from an upgrade giving in-house guests more pleasant dining options.

 

All In All

 

I would definitely recommend beach villas to families looking for spacious beachside accommodation in Phuket and wouldn’t hesitate recommending a Christmas or New Year’s celebrations at Dusit Thani.
