We stayed in this hotel many times for both work and pleasure.
Each stay brings mixed feelings but we keep coming back. So it must be quite good even for the fussy travellers like ourselves.
Good points – This hotel is in a beautiful old building in an excellent central location opposite Tuiliries Gardens, very close to Louvre, Place de la Concorde and of course all the fancy shops on Avenue Montagne.
With the corporate rate this hotel also often offers good value for money. You can stay in a lovely room / suite with the view of the Eiffel Tower for a reasonable fee which is rare in Paris.
Rooms and Suites
If you are staying in a room I would definitely pay a little extra for the Eiffel Tower view. It is very special and worth it.
Rooms have been upgraded but feel like a classic older style. Quite small which is a norm in Paris.
Junior suites – these suites are spacious but have no view. Only one junior suite in the hotel has a view of the Eiffel Tower. I would try to request it at the time of booking. Junior suites vary in layout quite dramatically, so I would recommend to see all available ones before settling on one that would suit your taste and accommodate all family members comfortably.
Most of the Junior suites would comfortably accommodate a couple with a small child.
Deluxe Suites with the view of the Eiffel Tower are the ones to go for. They are modern and spacious – my favourite pick.
Breakfast – very nice, in a cozy luxuriously furnished hall with plush sofas and designer coffee tables. Beautiful!
Service – has been consistent over the years. Polite and attentive. Reception often appears short staffed though with 10-15 min wait time to be heard
Concierge – Old school, has been doing this job for a long time. Good restaurant recommendations, excellent at getting tickets to museums with avoiding a long line, flowers delivery to the room.
Atmosphere – Beautiful. All guests are beautifully dressed, polite Europeans and Americans. Hotel lobby and restaurant have a classic luxury feel to it. You won’t be disappointed.
The only not so good point are Lunch & Dinner.
Expensive and really BAD food. For the hotel of this standard it is really unforgivable especially when you in the heart of Paris (the capital of culinary experiences).
Dinner menu has gone so designer & fancy (you can hardly make out what you are ordering) that I think the chef has lost the plot. Every single meal we ordered was hardly edible.
And the other thing – no acknowledgement of the Platinum / Gold Status at the hotel. No little chocolates, cards or wine sent to the room, no special touches. Not even a chocolate on your pillow at turn down service.
Would we recommend this hotel to you, fellow Lux Travellers? Yes, we will.
Of course, there are some new kids on the block in Paris, like the new super chic Shangri La and Mandarin Oriental. However the prices there are double or triple of the Westin rates. I think this hotel is an excellent value for money 5* Paris Hotel.
However if one has no budget in mind – give the new kids a shot. I am sure they won’t disappoint.
Best tip – see all rooms on offer. Being in an old building they vary a lot in size and lay out. And don’t eat in the hotel (only breakfast)!
If you are a runner / jogger – go for a run along the river Seine. One of my most memorable experiences from the last visit. You would feel like a real Parisian and it would give you a chance to see a city from a slightly different perspective.
