Seminyak’s dining scene has everything one could wish for – funky beach bars, glamorous cocktail lounges, French fine dining, exquisite Asian restaurants but there was a little gap in the market – we were missing an Italian restaurant with a spark. And then arrived Da Maria, young and hip Italian restaurant featuring an open kitchen, wood fire pizza ovens, cool young staff, Italian wines and everyone’s favourite cocktails – Bellinis and Aperol Spritz.
Da Maria is a brainchild of famous Australian restauranteur Maurice Terzini of Icebergs. Italian architects Lazzarini Pickering brought not only bright decor to this modern Osteria but also a little bit of Capri style. Bright and beachy, is fits perfectly into Bali’s dining scene.
In the early hours of the evening the restaurant is nice and calm with families dining on pizza and pasta and kids enjoying watching the chefs prepare their meals in front of them.
Come 10pm Da Maria changes into a loud and happening bar and eatery, perfect for an adults’ night out. The music picks up as well heeled locals pop in for a glass of prosecco and a pizza. You can choose to dine at the bar or get a table, either way you won’t miss out on fabulous atmosphere.
The food we tasted on the night was very authentic! My personal favourites were Burrata, locally produced yet almost as good as in its native Italy, San Daniele prosciutto, Calamari San Andreas and for the mains I couldn’t resist Gnocchi all Sorrentina and Braised lamb ravioli. Even writing this review makes my mouth water. All dishes are designed to share, so order lots of plates and pass them around the table. It is the best way to savour Da Maria tasty dishes.
Da Maria’s team will ensure a fantastic night out for you and your friends!
