The Legian Bali is without a doubt the best hotel in the busy area of Seminyak.
From the minute you walk through the doors you feel peace and tranquility in this truly Balinese resort.
Location
The Legian Bali is located on the beach, right in the middle of busy and happening Seminyak village. Famous restaurant / cocktail bar KuDeTa is 2 min walk away, Potato Head is 5 min away, main shopping street 10 min walk from the front door.
The beach in front of the hotel is a busy surf beach that goes on for miles. It is the most perfect place for long afternoon walks.
Accommodation
The Legian is a small boutique hotel, with only 68 suites in the complex. All suites have been recently renovated and are very spacious and comfortable inside. The style is distinctly Balinese – warm tones, a lot of wood and natural stone. A special romantic touch – white canopy beds.
The suites are also very high tech. These days no Lux Traveller is going to be surprised by a coffee machine in a suite (we came to expect it), but we were very impressed by a fully loaded Ipod with music to suit every taste – literally.
While all suites are beautiful, The Legian Suite is outstanding – it is the biggest and the most beautiful in the hotel.
The Legian Suite spreads over whopping 364 sq m. Its most fabulous feature is a huge terrace with the breathtaking views over the Indian Ocean.
The suite features 2 oversized bedrooms – one with a romantic white canopy king bed and another one with twin beds.
Both bedrooms have spacious double on-suites.
Beautiful living / dining area was a divine spot to relax and read a book while kids had their afternoon nap.
Facilities
The Legian has 3 gorgeous beachfront swimming pools – two of them are for families and one for the adults only. There is a multitude of cabanas and deck chairs for every taste around the pool and beach area. They are never too full, so you won’t have to fight for them or reserve at 6am like in some other resorts.
Poolside staff are excellent, they remember guests’ names from the day you arrive and try to help in every way. Complimentary water is served all day long by the very attentive wait staff who rush to re-fill your glass as soon as you had a sip.
The Spa
My favourite heavenly place…I love spas and happily spend money in them to try out all specialty treatments.
In The Legian we experienced Indian marma point head massage & masque and a Voya organic seaweed leaf wrap. Both were outstanding.
Hair treatment deservs a special accolade – it must be one of the most relaxing treatments I have ever tried. A must for anyone who wants to relax!
The Gym
Lovely to have, hardly ever busy. It has good weights area and a few treadmills. I went for a run on a couple of mornings and enjoyed it.
Dining at The Legian
Breakfast is buffet style and excellent. Food in Bali is generally very fresh and flavoursome and The Legian doesn’t disappoint.
It was so lovely to get an outside table and enjoy a long lazy al fresco breakfast. Anything you can think of is on offer – freshly squeezed juices from any fruit or vegatble you can think of, beautiful juicy fruit, home made style pancackes with your choice of chocolate, strawberry or banana surprise inside, fresh salads made to order in any style you like, Asian dishes and so on…I could keep going but I don’t want you getting too hungry as you read this.
Lunch
We started looking forward to lunch shortly after breakfast – a little naughty – but those lobster sandwiches with a glass of French champagne are absolutely to die for. Lunch can be enjoyed on the deck chairs or in the beach side bar or in a restaurant. Beach side bar was our pick but it just depends what you feel like on the day.
Dinner
Fabulous! Head chef used to work for Adlon Kempinski restaurant (one of the best hotels in Europe) and he brought his unique skills to Bali.
The waguy steak I had here was one of the best I tasted lately (melt in your mouth) and a selection of French change was impressive. It is the only restaurant we found in Bali serving Lauren Perrier Rose, my favourite summer drink.
Waguy carpaccio was also to die for as well as Prawn Cappelini pasta.
To have a fabulous selection of the chef’s specials – order Chef’s Tasting Menu, tell the chef about all your dietary likes and dislikes and enjoy an amazing meal with the best view in Seminyak. Candlilight and the sound of crashing waves are just a bonus!
The Lux Traveller Loves:
Location, Location, Location – Best of everything – exclusive spot in a happening area
Versatility – if you are looking for privacy and quiet romantic time you can find it at the Legian. If you are travelling with the family – chances are kids will find friends around the swimming pool and everyone can be entertained.
A very friendly hands-on GM Kevin. He runs a tight ship with an utmost attention to detail. Swiss precision!
A lot of special touches –
Candles all over the suite for romantic ambiance.
Complimentary yoga lessons 3 times a week on the hotel’s lawn – a great way to start the day!
Good wifi connection throughout the hotel
Everyone knowing your name
Splitting hairs:
The Legian site advertises kids activities – there were none available at the resort during our visit. I think it would be a wonderful additional for the young guests.
Yoga master also wasn’t as good as in the other resorts in Bali.
All In All – Fantastic Hotel in an excellent Location.
We highly recommend The Legian to anyone looking for 5 star luxury in busy Seminyak. We have reviewed The W Hotel next door and have to say that The Legian wins hands down.
